Mancini: ‘It’s my fault’

Roberto Mancini says “it’s my fault” Inter are outsiders for Champions League qualification.

With just 12 points left to play for, the Nerazzurri trail Roma by seven and it would take a spectacular collapse from the Giallorossi for Mancini’s men to take third-place.

“It’s my fault and I’m the one responsible,” the former Manchester City manager confessed his Press conference ahead of the Udinese game.

“Without the Champions League that’s right. This is my job, I understand football but only when we win.

“The team has heart, and the face we lost at Genoa is random, like some other defeats. I have a contract with Inter, without that I’d be at home.”

Mancini was then asked if his words were a message to President Erick Thohir about investment in the squad.

“No, I’m not referring to anyone. Whoever gets into the box has to be ready to score, I’m not criticising anyone.

“If I had my way then no-one would be sold, and the same for Thohir. There are budgetary needs though, so sometimes that can happen.

“Sometimes you can think that you’ll solve everything just by changing. We’ve definitely been missing goals from our strikers this season, but that can improve over time.

“Playing for Inter isn’t easy, you need players with personality and character.”

The Coach was criticised for playing both Gary Medel and Felipe Melo in midfield on Wednesday, but defended his decision.

“They’re quite similar,” Mancini acknowledged.

“But they played well against Genoa. Without Kondogbia it was an obvious choice. There are so many attacking players, we need different characteristics.

“We could have won with the chances we had.”
