Mancini: ‘Candreva? Inter a great club…’

Roberto Mancini is “pleased” that Inter are linked with Antonio Candreva and discusses Ever Banega’s role.

The Nerazzurri finished four in Serie A last season, missing out on the Champions League, but a Chinese takeover has brought hope of transfer investment.

“Candreva? We’re pleased that people expect good players to play for us,” Mancini told Sky.

“It’s not down to me, but the fact we’re a great club where great players have the ambition to play.

"I'm picky, because if you play at Inter you have to be a good player and give your best. You need good players to win, playing at their maximum, and that's what I want.

“Banega? My idea is to first of all look at the players who are available to me at the start of the season.

“He’s playing as kind of a deep-lying striker at the moment, but he’s very free to move and doesn’t have a clearly defined role.

“He’s an attacking midfielder, but one who picks the ball up from deep – I think that’s his role.”

Juventus have won the Scudetto for the past five seasons in a row, and Mancini fears they could extend their dominance.

“If they manage to get stronger, as they’re doing now with Miralem Pjanic and Dani Alves, they’ll start as heavy favourites.

“We must wait and see, it’s hard to talk about now.”

The former Manchester City manager was also asked about his future on the San Siro bench.

“I’m not thinking about not being Coach next season,” Mancini assured.

“Of course, in football nothing is ruled-out. Maybe if Inter sell all my best players – that’s a joke, of course!

“To win you need a club that wants to invest, and has the same goal [as the Coach]. When that happens you have more chance of achieving your objectives.

“It doesn’t always happen, but it happens.”
