Pato is insistently being linked Serie A clubs such as Inter. He is currently playing with Sao Paulo on a loan from Corinthians, but it is believed the latter will not make use of their €14m purchase clause.

Lazio could pick up the player for €7-8m, according to the Corriere dello Sport, though the player's legal wrangling with his club could lead to a shock move as a free agent.

Pato was not paid his image rights by Corinthians and his legal action could lead to his contract being rescinded, allowing him to move back to Italy for no fee.

The Biancocelesti are also after Lyon's Gourcuff.

The main obstacle to sign the French player is believed to be his salary, which stands at €6m per year and is currently beyond Lazio's means.

According to Lalaziosiamonoi.it, however, the player's desire to reboot his career with a view to Euro 2016 could lead him to accept a pay-cut.

Other alternatives being considered by the Roman team, according to il Corriere, include Manchester City's John Guidetti and Liverpool's Fabio Borini.
