Lazio make improved offer for Romagnoli: deal close

According to multiple reports in Italy, Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli is close to joining Lazio as the Biancocelesti have made an improved contract offer to sign him.

The Italy international’s contract with Milan runs out on June 30 and the Rossoneri are unwilling to keep hold of their ex-captain who has been in talks with several Serie A clubs.

However, Lazio are leading the race to secure his signature and according to Il Corriere dello Sport and Calciomercato.com, the two parties could shake hands soon.

In fact, Lazio President Claudio Lotito has raised his offer for the 27-year-old, putting on the table a new €2.8m-a-year deal, raising the previous bid by circa €500,000.

Romagnoli has demanded a €3m-a-year salary, but the two parties are as close as ever and the deal could be finalised in the coming days.

The former Sampdoria defender is a Lazio supporter and a move to the Stadio Olimpico has always been his priority despite offers from Fiorentina and newly-promoted side Monza.
