Italy legend Fulvio Collovati predicted only a few months ago that Juventus would have put Federico Chiesa on the market if Massimiliano Allegri had stayed and this seems very much the case even if both can still leave the Allianz Stadium in June.
Chiesa raged at Juventus boss Allegri on Saturday after being substituted during the second half of a Derby della Mole against Torino. Tuesday’s printed edition of Tuttosport reported that Juventus would listen to offers for the Italian striker in the summer even if the Bianconeri still hope to extend with the ex-Fiorentina star.
Surely, Juventus will put Chiesa on the market if he doesn’t commit his long-term future to the club, as his current deal runs out in June 2025. At the same time, however, it is easy to predict the striker will be reluctant to even listen to Juventus’ contract offer if Allegri remains in charge beyond the summer.
Aside from the latest touchline incident at the Stadio Grande Torino, Chiesa has already made it clear that he enjoys playing in an attacking-minded team, possibly being deployed as a winger rather than as a centre forward.
Back in November 2023, after scoring a brace for Italy against North Macedonia, Chiesa said: “We are more positive and attacking under this coach [Luciano Spalletti], which also means taking a few more risks at the back. However, we showed that we wanted to dominate the match and deserved the victory.”
Chiesa and Allegri seemed to have started off on the right foot in 2023-24 as the Italian striker netted in a 4-0 win over Udinese and the Turin giants put in a dominating performance before the break.
“It was a great performance, and in the first half, we were particularly intense, attacking them high up, and that is what modern football is all about,” he said after the final whistle.
“We mustn’t just clam up in the back, we need to push and press, which we showed today.”
It is quite evident that Juventus haven’t followed this path, and, in turn, Allegri has continued adopting defensive tactics, which only produced 45 Serie A goals in 32 matches this season, the lowest amount in 25 years at this stage of the campaign.
If Allegri does leave the Allianz Stadium in the summer, Juventus will surely have more chances to persuade Chiesa to stay. At the same time, however, this may not be the only condition for the Italian forward who has yet to reach an economic agreement with Juventus and could force the club to put him on the market at the end of the season if he doesn’t sign a new deal beyond 2025.
