Juve ‘to secure Witsel in Jan’

Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel will likely complete a transfer to Juventus in January, adding a vital reinforcement to the Bianconeri midfield.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Russian club are ready to sell the 27-year-old when the window opens, in order to avoid losing the player on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

A move for the Belgian has been no secret since a deal collapsed in the 11th hour during the summer.

The Bianconeri will lose Kwadwo Asamoah and Mario Lemina after the Winter Break when the pair leave for the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving a gap in midfield.

It is thought that a €6m fee will be enough for Juventus to secure the Belgian’s services, with the added advantage that the player will be eligible to play in the Champions League.
