The 25-year-old impressed against both Inter and Milan in Spurs’ Champions League campaign in 2010-11 and Inter have apparently kept an eye on his progress.

They believe that a deal could be struck due to Spurs’ interest in transfer-listed goalkeeper Julio Cesar. With negotiations for the unwanted Brazilian stalling, Inter could offer him to the Londoners as a makeweight alongside a bid for Lennon.

The Nerazzurri’s prime target was Lucas Moura but Paris-Saint Germain beat them to the young Sao Paulo starlet, tying up a €44.5m deal that President Massimo Moratti admitted his club couldn’t compete with.
