Inter fear losing Bastoni for free amid Tottenham and Man Utd rumours

Multiple reports in Italy claim Inter are struggling to reach an agreement to extend Alessandro Bastoni’s contract who has less than 18 months left in his current deal and has been linked with Tottenham and Manchester United.

Bastoni’s contract expires in June 2024 and the Serie A giants have already begun negotiations with the Italy international, hoping not to see him leave as a free agent at the end of next season.

However, Il Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport report talks between the two parties have been put on hold after the last few meetings between the club and the player’s entourage.

Bastoni gets €2.8m per year at San Siro, which can become €4m with add-ons. According to Il Corriere dell Sport, Inter have offered a new €4.5m-a-year salary plus bonuses, but the player wants €6m per year.

It’s exactly as much as Milan Skriniar requested last month before snubbing the Nerazzurri’s offer and signing a pre-contract agreement with Ligue 1 giants PSG. Inter fear facing the same scenario in one year, although Bastoni is a die-hard Nerazzurri fan.

This is one of the reasons why he didn’t even listen to offers from Tottenham and Manchester United last summer, but the two Premier League sides remain interested and Nerazzurri need Bastoni’s signature on a new contract to avoid seeing another star defender leave for free in the near future.
