Igor admits West Ham regret before joining Brighton from Fiorentina

Brazilian defender Igor is set to join Brighton from Fiorentina and admits his regrets for losing the Conference League Final against West Ham, especially having been involved in the Hammers’ winner.

Igor is set to join Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton for €17m plus add-ons. The Brazilian has spoken to Toscana TV before leaving for England, where he will undergo his medical.

The 25-year-old was asked which was his favourite moment in Florence, but he couldn’t pick one.

“All games played at the Stadio Franchi with the stadium full of fans,” he said as quoted by LabaroViola.

“I will miss the team and the fans. Then, I must focus on the club’s good, so I am happy with it.”

Surely, one of his lowest moments at the Artemio Franchi was the Conference League Final against West Ham in June. Igor was introduced in the final minutes but somehow contributed to Jarrod Bowen’s late winner.

Igor and Fiorentina’s defenders kept a high line and didn’t activate the off-side trap, letting Bowen beat Terracciano one-on-one.

“I was so sorry, especially because I was involved in the decisive goal,” Igor admitted.

“However, I am proud to have played with this shirt for a great team, here in Italy.

“I hug all Viola fans, thanks for everything, you’ll be forever in my heart. Forza Viola!”

Igor moved to the Stadio Franchi on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy from SPAL in January 2020 and played 109 games with the Tuscans. Fiorentina made his move permanent in May 2021 for €5m.
