Hellas Verona look to snap up free agent Manolas

Hellas Verona will meet with Kostas Manolas this week to try and sign the former Roma and Napoli defender on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old Greek centre back, who made 216 Serie A appearances for the Giallorossi and Partenopei over an eight-year period, has been a free agent since last month, having agreed to terminate his contract with UAE side Sharjah FC.

Manolas is now looking to find a way back to Serie A after a disappointing 18-month spell in the United Arab Emirates. Highly rated at Roma, the Greek defender struggled to justify his €36m fee at Napoli and left without much fanfare for Olympiacos in January 2022.

As reported by TMW, Verona will have a meet with Manolas’ entourage this week to try and convince the defender to join the struggling Veneto outfit. A six-month contract worth €400,000 with an option for a further year has been prepared by the Gialloblu.

Salernitana are also interested in the Greek centre back, opening talks last month, but for now Verona are in pole position in the race to secure his signature.
