Alberto Gilardino is hoping to become a regular again at international level following his move to Genoa.
The striker, a scorer of 17 goals in 47 caps, won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, but he hasn’t featured heavily in the plans of Cesare Prandelli.

“I’m always aiming for the Azzurri shirt and I want to be a part of Euro 2012,” stated the January arrival from Fiorentina.
“It would also be splendid if I could feature in the friendly against America at the end of this month as that will be played at Genoa.”
Gila, now 29, has played in just four games for his country since Prandelli replaced Marcello Lippi after South Africa 2010.
He scored in one of those ties, the 5-0 win over the Faroe Islands, but that has been his only strike in his last nine games for his country.
Gila’s chances of being called up for Euro 2012 have risen given the injury concerns of Milan’s Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi of Villarreal.
