Gerson ‘open to early Roma return’

Gerson “would return to Roma in January” midway through his loan at Fiorentina, said his agent, who also confirmed Flamengo interest.

The midfielder joined Roma from Fluminense for €16.6m in the summer of 2016, but made very few appearances in a Giallorossi jersey.

He was loaned to Fiorentina in order to gain more playing time, scoring one goal in 18 Serie A games, but has been linked with a return to base to fill in for injured Daniele De Rossi.

“Gerson is a Roma player who is only on loan to Fiorentina until May,” his father and representative Marcao told LaRoma24.it.

“We are obviously open to the solution of returning early, keeping in mind that Roma are the club who invested in him and brought him to Serie A.

“Any decision will be made in the interests of the player, which also means the interests of the club.”

However, a return to Brazil is also a possibility with Flamengo talks last month.

“I can confirm they are still interested.”
