Genoa are stepping up their pursuit of Milan defender Cristian Zapata, but Pippo Inzaghi would rather sell Philippe Mexes.

The Colombia international has been linked with a switch to the Grifone this summer, with Coach Gian Piero Gasperini admitting that he was not finished in the market.

La Stampa report that the Marassi outfit are preparing to make an offer to the Rossoneri for the centre back.

However, the same paper admits that new man Inzaghi is reticent to sell the 27-year-old, as he sees him as an important squad member for the season to come.

If one defender were to go, the tactician would like it to be Mexes, who has been linked with Manchester United.

Ideally however, Inzaghi would prefer to keep both players, but would be powerless to stop any departures should good offers arrive.
