Gattuso or De Biasi for Samp?

Former Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso and ex-Albania CT Gianni De Biasi are the favourites to become the next Sampdoria Coach.

Samp are on the lookout for a new man at the helm after Eusebio Di Francesco left by mutual consent yesterday.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttomercatoweb, the Blucerchiati met Gattuso earlier, hoping to convince him to take the job.

However, the latter adds the World Cup winner is not interested in the role, while Sky Sport Italia is adamant “there is no opening” to take him to Marassi.

ANSA, for its part, agrees Massimo Ferrero is pushing hard to convince Rino but instead may be forced to settle for De Biasi.

Tuttomercato is more positive about the 63-year-old’s chances, explaining “a positive meeting” took place between him and Samp earlier and that his “good rapport” with sporting director Carlo Osti could be the clincher.

De Biasi has been out of work since Alaves sacked him after just 10 games in November 2017, although he did guide Albania to Euro 2016 – their first-ever major tournament.
