Gattuso beats Borussia Dortmund on Valencia debut

Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso made a winning start on the Valencia bench, beating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in a friendly, with ex-Milan winger Samu Castillejo contributing an assist.

The former Napoli tactician was a surprise appointment at the Mestalla this summer and made his debut in a match on neutral turf in Austria.

Borussia Dortmund had several good early chances, but Valencia took the lead when Castillejo provided the assist from the right for Gonçalo Guedes, whose shot took a deflection.

Marco Reus converted a penalty to equalise, after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was brought down, but Carlos Soler pounced on an error to set up Marcos Andre and Guedes completed his brace with a strike from the edge of the area.
