Garcia: ‘Strootman worth €100m’

Rudi Garcia felt the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United was “excessive” and warned Roma will sell Kevin Strootman for “over €100m.”

The Coach spoke to reporters after the opening Guinness International Champions Cup game in Denver.

“It was a shame to go into the break 3-0 down. We need to be sharper, because if 2-0 down at half-time we could well have won.

The Coach spoke to reporters after the opening Guinness International Champions Cup game in Denver.

“It was a shame to go into the break 3-0 down. We need to be sharper, because if 2-0 down at half-time we could well have won.

“The result was excessive, but at the end of the day they won and deserved it. The difference was in their efficiency, as Manchester United had 50 per cent more shots on target.

“There were many youngsters today who had never even played in Serie A, so it was natural to feel a little nervousness against United.”

Miralem Pjanic stole the headlines in this match with an extraordinary goal from his own half, at least 50 yards out, just a day after he scored from the same distance while visiting the Denver Broncos.

“Pjanic’s goal was fantastic and will go all round the world. I can say the training session with the Broncos did him good!”

The game was surrounded by reports Manchester United were preparing an offer for Roma midfielder Strootman, who is still recovering from his serious knee injury in March.

“He’s on the road to a full recovery,” said Garcia. “A possible sale to Manchester United? What can I say to these rumours? For over €100m we can sit around a table and think about it…”

That translates to £80m, the same sum Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale last year.
