“Many clubs had difficult periods, but few remember that a year ago we were the only Italian team in Europe at this stage. It wasn’t a decade ago.

“Certainly 35 points isn’t much, you don’t need to be a great expert to say that this is an insufficient campaign. We know that too and will try to get out of this.

“It has happened before, we won the Scudetto in 1996, then finished 10th and 11th in a League with 18 teams. We won the Scudetto again in 1999.

“With Silvio Berlusconi at the helm I am confident we will get back on track once more.”

The fans have gone on strike this evening, hanging banners in the empty stands with ‘Game Over: Insert coin and Save Milan.’

“It’s a shame, above all to see criticism for Silvio Berlusconi, who I want to remind people he bought in a bankruptcy tribunal and made into the most successful club in the world.
“All teams have had difficult spells, some are going through it right now. We are all sad about it and we’re just as much fans of the club as the ultras.”

Galliani was asked if there was already a choice to replace Inzaghi in the 2015-16 campaign and for the first time confessed his position was up for debate.

“There is no post-Inzaghi. Inzaghi has a contract for next season and knows full well we have a very affectionate rapport, but we also have to do well over the next 11 games.

“I hope that Pippo can do well in these next 11 matches and continue in the next campaign. We hope the results can be good enough to allow Inzaghi to start the next season.”
