Fiorentina have been enjoying themselves after David De Gea kept two penalties out in 90 minutes against Milan in Serie A, posting images of the former Manchester United goalkeeper in the form of a statue along with the caption: ‘There’s a new David in town’.

The former Spain international saved two spot kicks during Fiorentina’s 2-1 win over Milan in Serie A. He had saved just three penalties across his last eight seasons with Manchester United.

In the aftermath of his feat, Fiorentina have posted images of De Gea in the form of a statue, a nod to Michelangelo’s famous ‘David’, which is kept in the city of Florence.

De Gea spent a full season out of the professional game last term, following the expiry of his deal with Manchester United, but returned to top-flight football with Fiorentina this summer, joining on a one-year deal with an option to stay on for another 12 months, albeit with a significant increase in wages if the deal is extended.

He has since started in all of Fiorentina’s last four Serie A matches, and also played in both legs of the Europa Conference League play-off matches against Puskas Akademia at the end of August.
