EURO 2020: FRANCE 1-0 GERMANY as it happened

France had two goals ruled offside and Adrien Rabiot hit the upright, so ultimately an unfortunate Mats Hummels own goal proved decisive to beat Germany 1-0 in Munich.

Les Bleus took the lead in somewhat chaotic circumstances, as an inspired Paul Pogba chipped cross-field pass sent Lucas Hernandez down the left and the roll across never reached Kylian Mbappé, as Mats Hummels accidentally turned it into his own net.

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot almost made it 2-0 after the break, running into the box only to smack his shot against the upright.

Germany’s first huge chance came moments later, a Robin Gosens cross volleyed just over the bar by Serge Gnabry.

Atalanta wing-back Gosens accidentally clattered Benjamin Pavard, then got in the way of the follow-up shot.

Mbappé thought he’d scored a magnificent second with quick footwork and a bending finish in off the inside of the far post, but he was narrowly offside.

Mbappé turned on the afterburners for a remarkable sprint, but Hummels picked the right moment to make a decisive tackle in the box.

The offside flag was up again when Pogba’s pass sent Mbappé down the right to roll across, laying it on a silver platter for Karim Benzema’s tap-in.
