Italy: Donnarumma delivers message after being booed at San Siro

Gigio Donnarumma insists he ‘always puts in the same commitment’ when playing with Italy and looks to the Azzurri’s next targets with his  ‘head held high.’

The 22-year-old was booed by Milan fans on his return to San Siro as Italy faced Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-final last night.

The Azzurri ended their 37-match unbeaten run with a 2-1 loss against Luis Enrique’s side.

It was the first time Donnarumma returned to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since his move to PSG over the summer.

As expected, Milan fans didn’t welcome him well as they kept booing him from the very beginning of the warmup until the end of the match.

The 22-year-old delivered a message on social media the morning after the game.

Donnarumma never mentions the fans who booed him but insists he looks to Italy’s following targets with his head held high.

“It didn’t go as we wanted, but we tried our best,” Donnarumma wrote on Twitter.

“The spirit and commitment are those that always accompany us when we wear the colours of our country. Towards the next targets with the head held high.”

Italy will face Belgium or France in the third-place Final at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Les Blues and the Red Devils meet in Turin tonight.
