Del Cerro Grande referee for Leicester City-Roma Conference League semi-final

Spanish referee Carlos del Cerro Grande has been assigned to the UEFA Conference League semi-final between Leicester City and Roma, with VAR introduced for the first time.

The first leg kicks off at the King Power Stadium on Thursday April 28 at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Conference League was the only competition in the UEFA stable without VAR technology this season, as the plan was to bring it in just for the Final.

However, UEFA have decided to bring that forward to the semi-finals, so there will be Video Assistant Referees for both Leicester-Roma and Feyenoord-Olympique Marseille.

The referee for Roma’s match will be Spanish official Carlos del Cerro Grande, with Juan Carlos Yuste and Roberto Alonso Fernandez as his assistants and fourth official Jesus Gil Manzano.

The VAR team will also be Spanish, Juan Martinez Munuera assisted by Alejandro Hernandez.

Del Cerro Grande has officiated Roma twice before, both in the 2020-21 Europa League.

There was a 2-1 win away to Young Boys, but also the contentious 6-2 semi-final defeat to Manchester United.

He has never officiated a Leicester City match.
