De Rossi madness at Marassi

Stephan El Shaarawy had given Roma the lead, but Daniele De Rossi threw it away with his red card and penalty for a 1-1 draw at Genoa.

The result ends the Giallorossi record at 12 consecutive Serie A away victories.

It was entirely avoidable, as a splendid low El Shaarawy volley had put them in front during a hard-fought game at Marassi.

The result ends the Giallorossi record at 12 consecutive Serie A away victories.

It was entirely avoidable, as a splendid low El Shaarawy volley had put them in front during a hard-fought game at Marassi.

De Rossi committed conduct unbecoming of a captain, as he pulled Gianluca Lapadula’s shirt and slapped him in the face when a corner came in, so as the ball was already in play, was both a red card and a penalty.

Lapadula converted it to snatch a point for Genoa, only their second in seven home fixtures this season.

Mattia Perin was decisive late on, along with the crossbar, to keep the scoreline level.
