De Ligt emerges as top Chelsea target as Juve eye free move for Blues duo

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Matthijs de Ligt is Chelsea’s main target to strengthen their defence in the summer, while Juventus are monitoring Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Both Chelsea defenders see their contracts expire at the end of the season and negotiations with the Blues have led nowhere so far.

Even if Juventus must lower their wage bill, both the Germany and Denmark international are reportedly being monitored by the Serie A giants.

The Bianconeri sent Aaron Ramsey, one of their highest earners, on loan at Rangers until the end of the season and could let Matthijs de Ligt leave for a suitable offer in the summer.

De Ligt’s contract at the Allianz Stadium expires in June 2024 and the Old Lady chiefs must decide whether to offer him a contract extension or prepare his sale.

Given that they may not be able to offer a higher contract to the Dutch defender, a sale in the summer is on the cards.

Both Barcelona and Chelsea have already sounded out the defender’s availability, knowing that a €125m release clause can be activated from July.

Juventus signed Frosinone defender Federico Gatti in January, but the player will move to Turin at the end of the season, at the end of his loan spell with the Serie B club.

Aside from Rudiger and Christensen, Niklas Sule and Alessio Romagnoli are also being monitored by the Old Lady.
