Milan striker Rafael Leao no longer owes €16.5m to his ex-club Sporting CP as the Court of Arbitration for Sport has ordered Lille to compensate the Portuguese club.
Leao terminated his contract with Sporting CP in 2018, joining Lille on a free transfer a few months later. He completed a €23m move to Milan in 2019. Sporting argued that they hadn’t given the green light to rescind the agreement with Leao and sued the Milan striker.
The Portuguese ace was ordered to pay €16.5m in March 2020 and the Lisbon Court of Appeal confirmed such a decision at the end of January. Sporting CP had asked for higher compensation, demanding the entire €40m release clause included in Leao’s contract at that time.
However, Leao has received good news from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, who ordered Lille to compensate Sporting. According to the report, the French champions have been ordered to pay €20m, including interests, for signing the Portuguese winger in 2018.
