Conte and De Zerbi floated as possible replacements for Pioli at Milan

La Repubblica claim that Milan are willing to replace Stefano Pioli if the right opportunity arises and both Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi have been linked as intriguing options.

The Rossoneri have not managed to hit the mark this season, despite spending over €100m in the summer transfer window on various reinforcements like Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Milan finished third in their Champions League group, relegating them to the Europa League, and they sit 11 points behind league leaders Inter after 17 matches, all but ruling them out of the title race this season.

As reported by La Repubblica via TMW, Milan’s management are open to sacking Pioli but have been waiting for the right moment, not wanting to be left in a difficult position. In recent months, some coaches considered by the club include Christophe Galtier and Marcelo Gallardo.

For now, the only realistic replacement for Pioli is Rossoneri Primavera coach Ignazio Abate, who the management don’t consider ready for the step up. As such, the club are willing to wait until the end of the season.

The two top options to replace Pioli in the summer are Brighton’s De Zerbi, who has continued to shine in the Premier League, and Conte, who is still out of work following his departure from Tottenham back in March.
