Castori: ‘Carpi must beat Roma’

Fabrizio Castori knows it won’t be easy for Carpi against Roma but “we have to win to help us on our way to safety”.

The Biancorossi are currently five points adrift of 17th-placed Sampdoria, but can ramp up the pressure with a win, as they play before their relegation rivals.

“We need three points,” Castori said in his pre-match Press conference.

“We know it’ll take a masterpiece for us to do that, because we’re facing one of the best teams in the League, who are fighting to win the Scudetto.

“We know it’ll take a masterpiece for us to do that, because we’re facing one of the best teams in the League, who are fighting to win the Scudetto.

“We can’t possibly think it’ll be an easy game, but we have to win tomorrow to help us on our way to safety.

“Tomorrow you’ll see a very determined Carpi, conscious and respectful of our opponents’ strength but eager to win.

“The signings of [Diego] Perotti and [Stephan] El Shaarawy were major coups, but Roma have so many other good players.

“[Luciano] Spalletti has changed the style of the team, which is and was a class team.

“We don’t like compliments, we want points. It’s right that we’re self-critical, to correct our faults. We realise that we’ve made tremendous progress, the fact that we’re here talking about results and performances against teams who are high-up in the League is proof.

“That’s not enough though, there are 14 games to go and there are points available everywhere. We have to be good to capture them.

“We know very well what we have to do to improve our position, we must focus solely on what we do on the pitch.”
