Cairo: ‘Austerity? The players Juric wanted have arrived’

Torino President Urbano Cairo responded to coach Ivan Juric’s outburst. ‘The players he wanted have arrived’.

The club’s response to the Croatian coach’s comment came quickly and the Granata secured deals with Dennis Praet, David Zima and Josip Brekalo in the closing days of the transfer market.

President Cairo now clarified the situation at Torino, as Juric questioned the club’s ‘austerity policy’.

“Juric is a very good coach. Having signed him was certainly not an austerity decision,” Cairo told at the Festival of TV and New Media, which is taking place in Cuneo.

Juric: ‘I was unaware of Torino austerity situation’

“Six days before the market closed, he wanted to give his opinion, make his cry of pain and I respect him a lot. But I was already looking around, so much that important players arrived, the ones he wanted.”

“For football, it’s the worst crisis of the last 30 years,” he continued. “Clubs have lost 30 per cent of revenues, while costs have remained unchanged.

“It’s a year of transition, but it will be different from the last two.”
