Davide Astori is confident Roma will secure second place and take up their option to buy him from Cagliari.

The defender is on loan from the Sardinian side and spoke to asroma.it.

“The victory in Cesena certainly changed our campaign, as we really needed a positive result to get back on track and have more belief in ourselves.

“It can help us prepare for a complex challenge against Napoli on Saturday with a clear head. Daniele De Rossi’s goal at the Stadio Manuzzi took away the negative moment that had blurred our own vision of ourselves.”

Nonetheless, the Giallorossi are only one point clear of Lazio, while Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Napoli are all pushing for a Champions League spot too.

“The fans certainly feel the rivalry with Lazio, but we are strong and if we focus on our own results than I am convinced there won’t be any fight for second place.”

Astori has made 17 Serie A appearances for Roma this season, scoring one goal, so how does he feel his campaign has gone so far?

“Coming to Roma was an important step after the previous six seasons at Cagliari, a club where objectively the ambitions were different.

“I personally had a good start here, playing in the Champions League too, but then injuries slowed down my development. I think, apart from a few individual performances, the season has been positive.

“I can only say the next two months will be fundamental to make my move permanent.”
