Arthur: ‘Focused on Fiorentina, but haven’t forgotten Juventus’

Arthur Melo was honest about his hopes for the future, highlighting his focus on Fiorentina but keeping the door open to a return to the fold at Juventus.

The 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder joined the Viola on a loan deal with a €20m buy option attached from the Bianconeri in July, giving him the chance to prove himself in Serie A once again following a disastrous season with Liverpool.

Arthur joined Jurgen Klopp’s team on loan last year but was almost immediately sidelined with a serious injury, limiting him to just one first team appearance. The midfielder spent more time on the pitch for the Under-21 side.

Speaking in an interview with AS via Calciomercato.com, Arthur first discussed his goals for this season and the future.

“Right now, my mind is focused on Fiorentina, but I haven’t forgotten that I have a contract with Juventus, that I am their player. I have enormous respect for them.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with them, but my commitment is to do well this season and we’ll see what happens.”

The 27-year-old midfielder then explained why he decided to join the Viola this summer.

“The truth is that I said yes after talking to the coach. At that moment I understood that I had to come here, to Fiorentina.

“The conversation I had with him, what he told me. I had already seen Fiorentina’s matches last season, how they played…. I made a good choice.”

Arthur has already made six appearances for Fiorentina, seeing 415 minutes of action across Serie A and the Conference League qualifiers. He has provided one assist in that time.
