“I don't know if it was my best performance for the Azzurri, but we were concentrated and came here knowing that in the past we had problems,” he said of the 1-0 victory.
“I think the important thing for now and the future is that Italy were able to impose their tempo and style on the game, even away from home.
“When playing with teammates of great quality, it makes it easier for everyone to raise their game.
“Slovenia are a great side who caused us problems and we'd never won here before, but Italy out-played them and dominated on their own turf. That is notable.”
Aquilani was one of several Juventus players in the starting XI, but the likes of Gigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci have struggled at club level this season.
“Of course the Juventus players have this great regret and if you ask why, we haven't a clue. Right now I'm in the Nazionale and looking forward to the next game with Ukraine.”
Italy travel to Kiev for an international friendly with the Euro 2012 joint hosts on Tuesday.
