Ancelotti: ‘Rotation works for Napoli’

Carlo Ancelotti saw Napoli’s 4-1 victory at Lecce as a perfect example of squad rotation, while explaining the Arkadiusz Milik-Fernando Llorente partnership.

The Partenopei made eight changes to the side that beat Liverpool midweek, but still earned a relatively comfortable 4-1 victory at the Stadio Via del Mare.

“We were a little lazy in the first half, but for the rest the performance was good,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

The Partenopei made eight changes to the side that beat Liverpool midweek, but still earned a relatively comfortable 4-1 victory at the Stadio Via del Mare.

“We were a little lazy in the first half, but for the rest the performance was good,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a dangerous game to play after the Liverpool highs, but rotating the squad helped us to maintain our focus. There used to be worry about making changes, but in my view it’s an important element of the game and the mentality of the squad was always strong.”

Ancelotti chose Llorente in a new partnership with Milik, but the ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker has now scored three goals in just two games.

“He certainly made a good impression. I liked the way he played alongside Milik and their positioning. The first goal also came from a Milik shot, so we’ve got a lot of variety to choose from in attack.

“Today, Milik took the centre-right slot, Insigne centre-left and Llorente centre-forward. Milik can shoot from distance there and receive in more space. He played alongside Robert Lewandowski many times for Poland, so he’s used to it.”

Ancelotti was asked who Napoli see as the most dangerous Scudetto opponent right now, Juventus or Inter?

“Knowing Maurizio Sarri and his teams, Juventus are still under construction and need time to reach their peak. Inter already have some certainties, while Juve will find their feet over the next few days.”
