‘Ancelotti has Napoli keys’

Aurelio De Laurentiis trusts Coach Carlo Ancelotti so much that “I’ve given him the keys to Napoli”.

The tactician replaced Maurizio Sarri on the bench this summer, and it appears he’ll have a far more involved role than his predecessor.

“I really believe in him, and that’s why I wanted him so strongly,” De Laurentiis explained to Corriere dello Sport,

“He’ll never have a solicitation from me, I will wait calmly and see what happens, his personality and abilities offer more than a guarantee.

“I’ve given the keys to Napoli to him, to him and my son Edoardo. Now, after all these years, I’ll be able to devote myself more to cinema and TV.

“Sarri? He’s said some things which were completely wrong, but I don’t want to reply or it’ll become a soap opera with unpleasant tones.

“I’m happy with Ancelotti and I haven’t heard from Sarri.”

De Laurentiis was also asked about Lorenzo Insigne.

“He has a symbolic release clause. [Mino] Raiola and I have decided that if we get a €200m bid we’ll sell him. It’s not a written agreement, but a verbal one. €200m, is that clear?”

The Napoli President also spoke this summer about an approach for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has joined Juventus.

“He’s good at generating interest,” De Laurentiis said.

“And of course if we’d waiting for him to arrive in the league before we sold the TV rights we’d have won the pools.

“Ronaldo is a champion and we’ll see him perform in an extraordinary way in the Champions League.

“He was really out of reach for Napoli, we couldn’t afford him.”
