Allegri: ‘Milan never wanted Hamsik’

Massimiliano Allegri reassures fans Milan “will sign important players, but we never went after Marek Hamsik.”

The Rossoneri have already secured Taye Taiwo and Philippe Mexes on free transfers, but the newspapers are full of speculation, including a push for Napoli hero Hamsik.

“We are looking for a Milan-class player in midfield with certain characteristics,” said the Coach.

“The club will sign important players for me to train. Hamsik? We never went after him, so it was all just newspaper talk.”

Negotiations are on-going with Standard Liege for Axel Witsel, but fans expect a big star signing.

“Adriano Galliani is right when he says we have time until August 31. Don't forget last year Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived on August 27, then Kevin-Prince Boateng and Robinho came too,” added Allegri.

Milan secured the Scudetto in his first season, but Allegri pointed out it was far from simple.

“Napoli and Walter Mazzarri achieved some extraordinary results. We only built up a bit of an advantage over them and Inter in the final four or five rounds.”
