During his unveiling press conference at Juventus last year, Massimiliano Allegri highlighted his desire to raise the value of his players, something he’s entirely failed to do, writes Apollo Heyes.
The Italian coach was initially dismissed by the Bianconeri back in 2019, being replaced by Maurizio Sarri, who only lasted a year himself before making way for Andrea Pirlo. After a confusing two years, Juventus replaced Pirlo at the end of his debut season and brought back Allegri, hoping to rediscover some stability.
Allegri was happy to be back during his unveiling press conference that July and made his goals clear, saying “I think this team’s target is to go all the way through, win as many trophies as possible and improve these players, which is why I was given the job. A coach must bring the result and create value.”
It seems fair to say that Allegri has failed this goal and has apparently done the opposite, lowering the stock of the Juventus players. Star striker Dusan Vlahovic is unable to show his best in the Italian coach’s system and midfielder Manuel Locatelli has never shown his true potential since making the move to Turin.
Pressure is continuing to mount on Allegri and it’s hard to imagine him seeing out this season with Juventus if things don’t start rapidly improving.
