Federico Chiesa was forced to leave the Juventus training session limping today after a painful challenge from defender Alex Sandro, leaving the club concerned.

The 26-year-old Italian winger has continued to struggle with poor fitness and minor injuries across the course of this season, leaving him to make just 15 starts across the Bianconeri’s 26 league games. He’s already missed five matches through injury and has started just twice in the last two months.

Chiesa had started the season in flying fashion, scoring four goals across Juventus’ first five matches of the season, but he’s only netted two more since and recent reports have suggested that his place in the Italy squad could be at risk ahead of this summer’s European Championship.

As reported by TMW, Alex Sandro flew in on a painful tackle on Chiesa during the Juventus squad training session at Continassa today, leaving the winger pained on the floor. The medical staff checked on him and he decided to return to the session.

A few minutes later, however, Chiesa was forced to complete withdraw from the session, limping off the pitch after Massimiliano Allegri told him to take a rest. The ankle that suffered the blow was the same one that was swollen following the Derby d’Italia loss to Inter.
