“Clearly a lot of big clubs wanted him, and even in Italy several clubs were following him,” Miguel Alfaro of YouFirst Sports told TuttoNapoli.

“Then the desire of Ancelotti, [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli and [President Aurelio] De Laurentiis made the difference and we did the deal quickly.

“Once we put the player in contact with the boss we understood that Napoli was the right place to grow, but also to do important things in the league and advance in the Champions League.

“We’re talking about a coach who's won in Italy, France, Spain, England and Germany.

“He was the perfect choice to replace Sarri because he is a Coach who is known everywhere. He decided to buy the lad and we thank him for that.

“The idea is to fight until the end with Juventus to win the Scudetto, then to get through this group of death in the Champions League.”
