Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee has labelled San Siro a ‘magical’ place after an unbeaten run away in Milan in the 2023-24 season, and has revealed that the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is in his top two favourite stadia in Europe.
Bologna are unbeaten in San Siro so far this season, having picked up draws against both Inter and Milan in Serie A. They also defeated the Nerazzurri in their own backyard in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 in December.
Thiago Motta’s side are also one of only four teams to take points off Inter in the league so far this campaign, alongside Juventus, Genoa and Sassuolo.
Zirkzee, Bologna’s second-highest goalscorer in 2023-24 behind Riccardo Orsolini, has been linked with a move away from the Dall’Ara at the end of the season, with a number of clubs in the Premier League, as well as Juventus and Milan all reported to be interested.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s SportWeek this weekend, Zirkzee explained his feelings after a successful run in Milan this season.
“Playing so well at San Siro was great, for us this year it has been a magical place given that we haven’t lost there and also won in the cup. It’s a fantastic stadium, I’d visited on a tour with my family before,” Zirkzee said, reported via TMW.
“It’s the first stadium where I walked in and understood football. As a fan, alongside the Allianz Arena in Munich, it is, in my opinion, the most beautiful stadium in Europe.”
Zirkzee continued: “It has a different aura from the others. Playing in a stadium like this, against a top team, is the ideal situation as a player. What other motivation do you need?
“When I played, the child inside me got really excited. All my heroes, at some point in their careers have played at San Siro.”
