Zielinski finally ended speculation about his future when he joined Napoli from Udinese for €20m at the beginning of August, and the former Empoli midfielder confessed he could not pass up the opportunity of working with Maurizio Sarri again.
“With Liverpool, there were talks but it didn’t happen,” he told Sportowefakty.
“But I’m happy to be at Napoli. They’re one of the best teams for a 22-year-old to join.
“Looking at their style of play and my qualities, I couldn’t have made a better choice.
“I’m a reserve at the moment, but I’ve only just arrived. Here, [the players] are all very strong.
“[My €65m release clause] is impressive. This means that Napoli expect good games from me and wants to protect themselves.
“On one side, it’s a good feeling to know that a club have paid so much for you, but on the other, I try not to think about it and don’t feel too much pressure.
“Apparently I’ve just had a great season, so this [move] is priceless.
“[Sarri] wanted me in January. I was at Empoli but chose to finish the season there.
“When we met in the summer, the Coach hugged me warmly and told me he couldn’t wait to have me in Naples.
“Sarri appreciates my skills, he’s a great Coach and I’m glad I can work with him again.
“I believe in my abilities. [Marek] Hamsik is one of the best midfielders in the Italian League and Allan is an important player, so I’ll have to work in training and at every opportunity.
“I’m not worried. In time, I’ll also become a starter.”
