Zenit short on strikers against Lazio

Zenit St Petersburg coach Sergei Semak gives injury updates ahead of the Champions League clash with Lazio, but it’s ‘highly improbable’ they’ll use three at the back.

It kicks off on Wednesday at 17.55 GMT in St Petersburg.

“We must do everything possible to achieve victory,” said the Zenit coach in his press conference.

“I am certain that those who step onto the field will give their all. Artem Dzyuba is ready to play, but Sardar Azmun and Sebastian Driussi are not yet available. Malcom is continuing the recovery process and Leon Musaev is also out of action.”

This means three out of their four available strikers for the Champions League are out injured.

Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio famously play with a 3-5-2 formation, so will Zenit adjust to counter that?

“We played with three central defenders in our last Champions League game, as the players’ strengths suit those kinds of tactics. Now the situation is different. Considering our defenders now, it’s highly improbable that we’ll play like that again this season.”
