The former Roma Coach was in Italy today for the Golden Bench ceremony, where Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri was named as the Serie A Coach of the Year.

The Czech tactician has been vocal in his support of Giallorossi captain Totti, and praised Er Pupone in an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.

“It’s right that a Coach must make his choices,” Zeman acknowledged.

“It’s true that you can also get them wrong though. You know what my relationship is with Totti, I’d like to see him on the pitch more often.

“But it’s right that Spalletti must make his own choices, as I said. Totti is there because he feels like he’s on the level of his teammates, when he feels he can’t do it anymore it’s right to stop.”

Zeman was then asked whether he misses working in Serie A.

“I watch Italian football, yes, but for me there haven’t been any exceptional games. Maybe the best was Fiorentina-Napoli.

“It’s a very balanced League, Juventus and Napoli have something extra and they’re showing that on the pitch.

“Allegri’s award? He deserved it, he won and took Juventus to the [Champions League] final, so it’s right that it went to him.

“He has a strong club behind him, but he’s always done well.”
