Zanetti: ‘Totti a great champion’

Javier Zanetti calls Francesco Totti “a great champion” after the Roma captain’s 300th goal this weekend.

The veteran recorded his 300th goal for the Giallorossi in the 2-2 draw with Sassuolo on Sunday, and the Inter vice-President paid tribute in an interview with RTL.

“Totti is a great champion, on and off the field,” Zanetti said.

“He’s been the symbol of Roma for many years, and he’ll remain in their history forever. I still remember the night we both scored at San Siro [February 2008].

“It was a great pleasure for me to play against a champion of his calibre, an honour.

“His lob against us in 2005? That evening we saw an awesome feat of football from a champion such as Totti.”
