Zanetti plans to play on at Inter

Javier Zanetti says he wants to play on at Inter despite the club’s desire to start focusing on youth.

The veteran Argentine is only contracted to the outfit until June and it is unclear whether he’ll be offered a new playing contract.

“My idea is to play next season,” the 39-year-old told FC Inter News. “I want to continue my career as a player.

“I’ll speak with President Massimo Moratti and the club to understand their plans.”

Inter are expected to freshen up their squad in the summer after already making substantial changes to the playing staff ahead of this term.

“Inter have a lot of young players in their sights who could give us a big helping hand,” the club captain continued. “That is the path to follow.

“You’ll need to give them time to construct something important.

“And even the young players who are already here won’t have any problems next season after having the experience of this one.”

Inter are understood to have one hand on Sampdoria striker Mauro Icardi, a 20-year-old Argentine.
