“Traditionally this is a very important game and we really want to reach the Final of this competition,” Zanetti told Rai Sport.

“We hope to do well in this first leg against an opponent who is proving its worth. This is an important week for the rest of the season and we hope to do well against Juventus and then Milan on Sunday.

“The team has to rediscover the confidence it had two weeks ago. The lads showed they can do great things and put in strong performances.

“The club has great faith in the Coach and the squad, there is time to improve and battle to the end with the other teams.

“The objective is to become protagonists again and hopefully as far up the table as possible. We’ve already proved we can fight to be up there.”

Zanetti was also asked about transfer news, as Ranocchia is expected to have his medical for a loan to Sampdoria tomorrow, while striker Eder is on his way after rejecting Leicester City.

“There will be news soon on Eder and Ranocchia. We are negotiating, we are at an advanced stage, but nothing is official yet.

“At this moment the most important thing is the match, then we’ll see what happens on the market.”
