Zamora: ‘Real Sociedad motivated to beat Inter at San Siro’

Real Sociedad legend Jesus Maria Zamora highlighted how beating Inter at San Siro ‘would be prestigious’ for the Spanish side as they fight to finish top of their Champions League group.

Both clubs have the chance to secure a first-place finish in Group D when they battle it out in their final Champions League group match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday evening, being tied on 11 points each.

When these two teams met earlier in the season, Inter snatched a point in a 1-1 draw after a Lautaro Martinez equaliser in the 87th minute of their clash at the Reale Arena.

Speaking to Tuttosport via Calciomercato.com, Real Sociedad legend Zamora first discussed the Spanish side’s ambitions ahead of their trip to San Siro.

“With today’s mentality, Real Sociedad will want to win at San Siro, not draw. They are aiming for first place, it would mean having a softer game in the Round of 16.

“The team are playing well in La Liga, but I think they expressed themselves better in the Champions League. Finishing the group ahead of Inter would be prestigious for the club.”

He touched on his favourite player in the Inter squad.

“Thuram. He changed the game in San Sebastian. I saw several Nerazzurri matches, the Frenchman is powerful, fast, decisive, he knows how to score.”

The former midfielder, who spent 15 years with Real Sociedad from 1974 to 1989, then spoke about the difficulties of playing at San Siro.

“Now the team have gained experience with participation in the previous editions of the Europa League. San Siro is a historic, traditional pitch.

“But I remain convinced that Real Sociedad will not change their way of playing. They will apply high pressure, they will not lose their nature, they will play with the same idea as always.”

Finally, Zamora discussed how Real Sociedad’s spirit can help them find victory against Inter.

“I believe it is the team’s way of playing, not so much the performance of the individual, that is fundamental.

“We don’t have one player who stands out from the others, but several players who together make the difference. With spirit, conscience and our DNA, we can do well.”
