Zaccagni’s agent makes U-turn after threatening Lazio

Mattia Zaccagni’s agent keeps pushing for a new deal with Lazio but insists he didn’t want to cause controversy after saying the Italy international will be in the ‘same situation’ as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic next year.

Zaccagni’s current deal at the Stadio Olimpico runs out in June 2025 and the winger’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, seeks a contract extension after seeing his client score 10 goals and deliver seven assists in 35 Serie A appearances in 2022-23.

“I’ve been talking to Lotito for eight months about Mattia’s extension. I put all my goodwill to close the agreement as soon as possible, but at this point, it’s no longer my problem,” Giuffredi told TMW on Thursday.

“The new contract must be a mutual pleasure. Contractually, Mattia will be in the same situation as Milinkovic [in 2024], and it won’t be our fault.”

SMS left Lazio to join Al Hilal for €40m earlier this summer with less than a year left in his contract with the Biancocelesti.

A few hours after the interview was published, Zaccagni’s agent partially rectified.

“I didn’t want to cause controversy nor say Lotito does not care about Zaccacagni. Probably, the president has been busy,” said Giuffredi.

“He has made a promise to me and the player and I am sure he will keep his word. Zaccagni loves Lazio and we want to end this saga in the best way for all the parties involved.”
