Why Gosens can have the same impact as Hakimi at Inter

Kylian Mbappé said former Inter defender Achraf Hakimi is the best right-back in the world, but a stat suggests Robin Gosens can have the same impact at San Siro, although on the opposite flank.

Hakimi spent one season at Inter before joining PSG in a €75m deal last summer.

The Morocco international has three goals and as many assists in 25 appearances with PSG this term.

He scored the winner in Morocco’s 2-1 victory over Malawy in the Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 yesterday and his teammate Kylian Mbappé praised him on social media.

Inter have replaced Hakimi with Denzel Dumfries who has three goals and five assists in 26 appearances with the Nerazzurri.

Inter are now on the verge of signing Robin Gosens with Atalanta. The Germany international has been one of the best full-backs in Serie A over the last few seasons and a stat suggests he can have the same impact as Hakimi at Inter.

Hakimi, Gosens and Milan’s Theo Hernandez are the only defenders to have contributed to at least nine goals in the opening 21 Serie A games in the last 15 years.

Gosens has been forced to the sidelines with a thigh injury and will return to action in mid-February.

He played his last Serie A match on September 25 and has collected eight appearances across all competitions this season.
