Liverpool coach Arne Slot hopes that Federico Chiesa can return to play after the international break, as he is expected to take advantage of the two-week hiatus to improve his condition and ‘join’ the rest of the squad.

Chiesa played his last game for the Reds on 25 September against West Ham and, after remaining on the bench against Wolverhampton a few days later, he hasn’t been called up anymore. His coach admitted that he went ‘in and out of the training sessions all the time, as he was struggling to reach the same ‘intensity levels’ of the rest of the Liverpool team.

When Chiesa will be back for Liverpool

After recently suggesting that Chiesa was almost ready to start training with Liverpool again, Slot revealed that he expects the Italy international to return available to play after the international break.

“Chiesa is not back before the international break, but there is only a week to go,” Slot told the media in a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s game against Brighton in the Premier League.

“We are hoping he can do things again during the international break and that he can join us afterwards.”

Chiesa joined the English giants from Juventus last summer, but he missed the entire pre-season with the Bianconeri as he was told by coach Thiago Motta he was not part of his technical project.
