Reports in Italy claim that West Ham United could secure Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca by the end of this week for €42m including add-ons.
The original asking price from the Neroverdi had been €50m, although that seems to have lowered over the last few days to €45m.
According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, the clubs are now very close to reaching an agreement after their latest telephone conversation and should have the details finalised by Sunday evening.
It will be at a cost of €42m including add-ons, and the latest bid reported by Sky Sport Italia was €36m plus €6m in bonuses.
Sky Sport Italia contend that Sassuolo will retain a 10 per cent cut of the sell-on fee and see the clubs possibly exchanging documents as early as Saturday.
Italy international centre-forward Scamacca had been linked with Milan and Inter this summer, but the €50m asking price made that improbable.
Paris Saint-Germain had then been on the verge of a deal, only to baulk at the cost and offer at most €30m plus €5m in bonuses.
Scamacca is 23 years old and scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances last season.
