‘We’ll knock Juliet from her balcony’

Sinisa Mihajlovic is in no mood for romance as he reflects on Sampdoria’s drop in form and how they need to respond against Verona.

The Blucerchiati were defeated 3-0 last weekend in Bergamo, much to the Coach’s ire, leading to his post-match outburst and reported frustration in training in the following days.

With Verona set to come to town tomorrow afternoon, the Serbian has outlined the intention he has for things to change.

“I believe that the team is good, but you have to ask whether the team can respond to the captain and vice-captain, it is they who must ensure that we do not repeat the mistakes from last Sunday,” began Mihajlovic to reporters today, sat alongside Angelo Palombo and Daniele Gastaldello.

“Be careful, though, I do not want to pass on the responsibility. Even though I arrived midway through the season, this team feels like it is mine, and if another performance like last Sunday occurs, the responsibility would be mine, because it would be wrong to evaluate my men.

“Over the next seven days we have three games, we will make changes for tomorrow, as well as Wednesday and next Sunday against Fiorentina.

“It is right to make a few changes. If I had to drop those responsible for the defeat in Bergamo, I would have to change all the players, but also the Coach of Sampdoria…

“I anticipate an angry Verona, because they come from a defeat like us. During his Press conference, [Andrea] Mandorlini responded to a reporter who asked if Verona were in crisis – how can we think that a newly promoted club who has achieved their results is in crisis?’

“But I will do anything to knock Juliet down from the balcony…”

Miha turned back to his own side’s recent drop in form again.

“If we can find that anger that we had when I arrived then we can get something from the last few games.

“We must go back to being a hungry team that made me proud to be the Coach. The objective is always survival, we have 11 points more than the team in third last. We are close to the target, but we have not yet reached it.”

Maxi Lopez hasn’t scored since the start of February.

“I expect him to do as he does in training, which is to concentrate. I expect him to do his duty, because it is not enough to score a goal in a game to put things right.”
