Palermo ‘keeper Emiliano Viviano knows he’s in competition with Salvatore Sirigu of Paris Saint-Germain for a spot at Euro 2012.
With Juventus’ Gigi Buffon and Napoli’s Morgan De Sanctis considered as first and second choices, there is just one goalkeeping space up for grabs.
“The fact that I’m in the squad again is something to be proud of,” stated the custodian. “I’m fighting for a place with Sirigu, but there is no rivalry.
“I’ve been a part of Cesare Prandelli’s project for most of the time. He works hard on the training field and I think we’ll play well.”
Viviano was brought back into the set-up this year after missing the first six months of the season with a knee problem.
The custodian, who replaced Buffon in the national side while he was out with injury, joined Palermo in January from Inter.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future,” he added. “I am co-owned with Palermo, but Inter have the option to call me back.
“I want to do well so I can return to Inter one day, but it is not my ambition to be a reserve at Inter or any other club for the time being.”
Inter’s first choice is currently Brazilian international Julio Cesar.
